KCC wins 2025-26 KBL Championship

Busan defeats Sono in 5 games, captures 7th KBL title

The Busan KCC Egis are KBL champions after defeating the Goyang Sono Skygunners four games to one in the 2025-26 KBL Finals. It is the franchise's seventh title, tying the Hyundai Mobis Phoebus for the most championships in league history.

This was the first KBL Finals in league history to feature a No. 5 and No. 6 seed, and few gave either team a chance when the postseason began. Both clubs had turbulent regular seasons but saved their best basketball for the playoffs.

KCC came out dominant, winning both road games by an average of 12 points to take an early 2-0 series lead. Sono had gone undefeated through the entire KBL postseason before the Finals.

Game 3 came down to the wire. With time running out in regulation and Busan clinging to a one-point lead, KCC import Shawn Long was fouled and made both free throws to seal an 88-87 win and put the Egis up 3-0. Sono kept their season alive in Game 4, getting an 81-80 win on a pair of late free throws from local MVP Lee Jung-hyun to avoid the sweep.

But Sono couldn't hold off KCC in Game 5. Busan came out of the gate hot and never looked back in a 76-68 victory, building an early cushion by outscoring their opponents 42-23 through the first half. A determined 27-point fourth-quarter push cut into the margin but came too late to flip the script, as KCC's first-quarter blitz proved to be the difference on a night where every other frame was tightly contested.

Heo Hoon — KCC's offseason blockbuster signing at point guard — was named Finals MVP. He posted 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the championship-clinching game to capture his first-ever KBL title. The former KBL MVP (2020) is also a two-time KBL Best 5 honoree (2020, 2021).

Both teams have qualified for the 2026-27 EASL season, with Sono earning its spot as the No. 5 seed and KCC as the No. 6 seed. They are two of four teams confirmed for the upcoming EASL field so far.
