Anyang stay undefeated after fiery contest with TNT

Group A – Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters 105 (2-0) vs. TNT Tropang Giga 97 (0-4)

December 6, 2023 – Anyang Gymnasium, Anyang, South Korea

Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters remain undefeated in EASL after a 105-97 victory over PBA Governors’ Cup champions TNT Tropang Giga.

The three-pointer was working for Anyang this evening, as they combined to shoot over 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Darryl Monroe played a great all-around game, finishing an assist short of a triple-double.

Post-game triple

1. TNT show some fight… literally

Late in the game, with TNT trailing, former Philippines national team Head Coach Chot Reyes, who is acting as a consultant for TNT, was seen shoving Jung Kwan Jang forward Darryl Monroe, sparking a scrum. After the two were separated, Reyes was ejected from the game. Monroe got out of the altercation unscathed.

2. Anyang rain in threes

Jung Kwan Jang poured threes in this game. Six of their nine active players hit a three, combining to go 16 for 31 from deep.

Choi Seong Won led the way, going six for seven from beyond the arc. He finished with a team-high 24 points.

3. Miller goes out fighting

TNT big man Quincy Miller was a force to be reckoned with in his final game with the team. The American scored a game-high 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Miller is set to join Japanese B.LEAGUE side Toyama Grouses after this game.

EASL Player of the Game: Darryl Monroe, Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters

Darryl Monroe was instrumental in this game, going nine-for-11 from the field (81.8 percent), for 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, just one dime short of a triple double.

Monroe captained his team tonight and showed his leadership on the floor, stepping in and protecting his team during the altercation late in the game.

Quotes of the day

TNT Tropang Giga Assistant Coach Josh Reyes

On the altercation with Jung Kwan Jang:

“Both teams were competing hard, both players and everybody in our delegation. It was just a situation where we wanted to show everybody that we’re here for business. If we feel there’s some disrespect happening then we want to stand up against that. It’s not a diss to Monroe. He was just out there trying to do what’s within the rules. It’s just two teams and two individuals competing at the highest level.”

Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters forward Darryl Monroe

On the altercation with TNT:

“First of all, I wanted to apologize for the small incident during the game. To coach, to the team, to any fans … if I disrespected you guys, I just want to apologize and say I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do anything malicious or anything like that. But, you know, they fought hard as a team …

“The coach was drawing up a play right on the court, so I tried to see the play. I didn’t touch anybody, I didn’t do anything, I had my hands up … It’s a learning experience. Maybe I won’t do it next time, maybe I will. I need every advantage I can [get] because I’m old!”
