Meralco Bolts Qualify For 2025-26 EASL Season

The Meralco Bolts have qualified for the 2025-26 EASL season, marking its third straight campaign with the league.

The Meralco Bolts have officially qualified for the 2025–26 East Asia Super League (EASL) season, serving as the PBA’s (Philippine Basketball Association) lone representative for the upcoming campaign. This marks the Bolts’ third consecutive EASL appearance, joining Japan’s Ryukyu Golden Kings and Chinese Taipei’s New Taipei Kings as just the third team to achieve this milestone.

Meralco made its EASL debut in the league’s inaugural 2023–24 season, finishing with a 1–5 record and placing last in Group B. The lone bright spot came at the midseason mark when the Bolts stunned the Ryukyu Golden Kings in an overtime thriller — a result that remains one of the team’s most memorable EASL moments.

The following domestic season, the Bolts bounced back in style. Capping off a historic run, they captured their first-ever PBA conference championship by winning the 2024 Philippine Cup, defeating the San Miguel Beermen in the Finals. That triumph secured their return to EASL for the 2024–25 season.

This past EASL campaign, Meralco built on its domestic success and came within striking distance of a Final Four berth. The Bolts reached the midseason break with a 2–1 record, highlighted by wins over the Macau Black Bears and Korea’s Busan KCC Egis. However, they closed the season with three consecutive losses, including a heartbreaking double-overtime defeat to eventual third-place finishers, the New Taipei Kings — a win that would have clinched them a postseason spot.

With Meralco’s qualification confirmed, the 12-team field for the 2025–26 EASL season is now set. The Bolts will compete in Group B alongside last year’s Final Four teams — the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots and Ryukyu Golden Kings — as well as the Macau Black Bears.

Meralco’s 2025–26 EASL journey will begin on the road against the Ryukyu Golden Kings on October 22, 2024. The team’s home opener is scheduled for November 8 against the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots. Venues and tip-off times for these games will be announced at a later date.
